Advanced Propulsion System Integration & ReEngining Study for Naval Vessels

Conceptia successfully executed a comprehensive engineering assignment for a defence customer involving two critical studies on naval propulsion systems. The project showcased our ability to address highly complex marine engineering challenges while adhering to stringent naval standards and operational requirements.

1. Propulsion Feasibility Study for Multiple Propulsion Architectures

The first part of the engagement focused on evaluating the feasibility of integrating various propulsion configurations-CODOG, COGOG, CODAG, and COGAG-with the vessel’s existing shafting arrangement and propellers. This indepth study included:

• Hydrodynamic assessments and model testing to evaluate performance characteristics under different machinery combinations.
• Route feasibility analysis for shipping and unshipping large propulsion equipment within the vessel’s constraints.
• Detailed technical evaluation of Gas Turbines and Diesel Engines, including performance curves, weight distribution, space envelopes, and integration prerequisites.
• Comprehensive review of interfacing ship systems, covering piping, electrical power distribution, control systems, and mechanical ventilation requirements.
• Vibroacoustic analysis to ensure compliance with naval quietship standards and improve operational stealth.
• Selection of machinery mounts optimized for vibration isolation and structural integrity.
• Preparation of a detailed work package for the shipyard, including integration methodology, modification scope, and installation sequencing.

This rigorous engineering exercise deepened our understanding of naval propulsion design and strengthened our competence in executing high-end propulsion integration projects.

2. ReEngining Study for a Legacy Naval Vessel

The second component of the assignment involved replacing an ageing MAN diesel engine on another naval vessel with a modern Caterpillar marine engine. The study included:

• Comparative technical analysis of the legacy and new engines
• Integration design, addressing footprint differences, alignment requirements, and interface modifications
• Assessment of auxiliary systems-fuel, air, exhaust, cooling, controls, and electrical-to ensure smooth integration
• Recommendations for structural and system adaptations necessary for installation and operation
• A complete reengining work package for shipyard execution

Outcome & Impact

This project demanded engineering precision, multidisciplinary coordination, and deep familiarity with naval standards. By delivering both studies successfully, Conceptia not only met all customer expectations but also strengthened its internal knowledge base in propulsion engineering, reengining, and complex naval integration.

The expertise gained through this assignment enhances our readiness to undertake future naval projects of even higher technical sophistication and positions Conceptia as a trusted partner for advanced marine engineering solutions.

Container Vessel Detailed Design - Project Snapshot

Conceptia successfully delivered the complete detailed design package for a nextgeneration container vessel, enabling the customer to commence fabrication and system installation on schedule.

Digital Execution with CADMATIC

The project was executed through the CADMATIC remote work model, using a centralized server-based database for 3D models, documents, and component libraries. This facilitated seamless global collaboration and efficient multidiscipline coordination.

Conceptia created a JISstandard component library tailored for the customer-enhancing design consistency and accelerating future vessel projects. This value addition received high appreciation from the customer.

Solar Barge Engineering - Project Snapshot

Warm congratulations to the DOSTAS fraternity and the organizing team for the successful conduct of the 4th edition of the DIMS 2024 International Maritime Seminar in Kochi. It was a privilege to participate as the Panel Chair on Emerging Technologies and engage in meaningful discussions on digitalization, with a special focus on Digital Twin applications in the shipping industry.

Two global shipping leaders, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, and ECT Marine, Netherlands, have come together to develop dredgers for both domestic and international markets. As part of this initiative, Conceptia signed an MoU with GRSE and will partner with ECT Marine Netherlands for dredger design. This strategic collaboration is driven by the growing demand for dredgers, fueled by the development of new ports and the increasing preference for inland navigation as a future mode of sea transport.

We had the privilege of visiting the Marine Engineering Department for our Campus Interview Drive, where we interacted with a group of highly energetic, motivated, and passionate students eager to make their mark in the marine industry. The enthusiasm, curiosity, and confidence displayed by the students truly reflected the strong academic foundation and industry readiness nurtured by the university.

We successfully conducted a Campus Recruitment Drive at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, engaging with enthusiastic and talented students from diverse engineering disciplines. The interaction provided a great opportunity to connect with young minds, understand their skills and aspirations, and share insights about industry expectations and career opportunities. We appreciate the support and coordination extended by the faculty and placement team and wish the students every success in their future endeavors.

We conducted a placement drive at PES University, Bengaluru, for fresh mechanical engineering graduates for the Junior Design Engineer position. The drive provided an excellent opportunity to interact with young talent, assess their technical skills, and introduce them to industry expectations and career growth opportunities at Conceptia.

The HR induction program at our Kolkata branch was successfully completed, focusing on equipping employees with essential skills for professional success. The session emphasized teamwork and coordination, proactive initiative, effective communication, stress management, and fostering a positive work culture. A Stress Management workshop was conducted at Conceptia Software Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, by Ms. Lajwanti Jethwani, focusing on practical solutions to manage workplace stress. The session provided valuable insights into stress-related challenges and effective coping techniques, helping our team members build resilience and maintain well-being at work.

A Financial and Tax Planning session was organized for our team members in Bengaluru, facilitated by Mr. Pandurang Patkar, Certified Financial Planner (CFP). The session provided valuable insights into financial planning essentials, personal financial fitness, money management, wealth creation strategies, asset allocation, investment options, and effective tax planning. It was an informative and empowering session aimed at helping employees make informed financial decisions and plan for a secure future.

Lt Cdr Nagendra R has joined Conceptia as General Manager - Projects. We are pleased to welcome him to the team and look forward to his leadership, expertise, and valuable contributions to our ongoing and future projects.

Every great journey begins with a dream. For me, that dream was born during my years with the Indian Navy, between 1996 and 2000. During that time, I had the privilege of working closely with Rubin-the world-famous design bureau in St. Petersburg, Russia. Rubin was more than just a workplace; it was an inspiration. Its cutting-edge infrastructure, vast knowledge base, and team of brilliant designers and subject matter experts showed me what true engineering excellence could achieve. Standing there, I imagined a day when India would have its own world-class engineering design center.

When I left the Navy, that vision stayed alive in my heart. It wasn’t just an idea-it was a calling. In 2004, I took the first step toward making it real and founded Conceptia. From the very beginning, technology was our cornerstone. We believed that advanced tools and innovative solutions would empower industries, enhance productivity, and ultimately serve the nation.

The journey was never solitary. Along the way, we forged strong partnerships with global leaders like Dassault Systèmes India, QinetiQ UK, and B&A Software, Norway. These collaborations brought us invaluable know-how and helped us implement technology solutions that became the backbone of productivity for our customers. Each milestone reinforced our belief that we were building something meaningful-not just for ourselves, but for the country.

Today, as I look at Conceptia and its marine division, C-Marine, I see more than a company. I see a living, breathing vision-a center of excellence that continues to evolve, innovate, and contribute to India’s progress in the maritime domain. But this is only the beginning. The future we imagine is bold: a future where C-Marine stands as a global leader in naval architecture and marine engineering, where technology and talent converge to create sustainable, efficient, and groundbreaking solutions for the world’s oceans.

C-Marine exhibited its latest designs of Ships especially the Container vessel and the Research ship.

It showcased the importance C-Marine gives to R&D and the need to invest in the development of industry ready products.

We also exhibited at the Indian Maritime Designers association (IMDA) stall at the IMW 2025 venue.

Also exhibited VeriSure software for Quality Inspection and reporting. This was widely received by prospective customers who noticed the elaborate features of the software that addresses the entire spectrum of Quality inspection from QAPs to work allocation and the actual inspection process, recording of voice, photos and videos and reporting. The feature of analysis of inspections in the database is yet another feature that was well acclaimed by the visitors.

FICCI (Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry) led a delegation to DSEI UK 2025 during 9-12 September 2025.

The aim of the delegation to the Exhibition is to nurture a stronger UK-India defence industrial relationship which is vitally important for the shared prosperity and security of our two nations and is a shared ambition of our respective Prime Ministers.

The event is recognised as the world’s largest land, sea and air biennial defence and security exhibition which brings together, in one location, a wide range of equipment from many countries in the exhibition halls and on the Naval Ships at the dockside. DSEI UK 2025 was the thirteenth in this successful series of United Kingdom international defence shows at this world-class venue. DSEI UK 2025 showcased around 1,600 companies with 35 international pavilions.

C-Marine expects to benefit from the business networks established during the DSEI UK, 2025.

Nor-Shipping 2025 took place from June 02-06, 2025 in Oslo

C-Marine was a visitor at the event and primarily focused on the opportunities in the Green energy business and interacted with several players in the H2 fuel cell market. The event was also helpful in exploring the latest advancements in ocean innovation and maritime leadership.

C-Marine show cased its products and services at the world’s leading trade fair for the maritime industry in Hamburg from 3 to 6 September 2024.

Over 2,000 exhibiting companies and around 40,000 participants from more than 100 countries visited. On 90,000 square metres in twelve halls, SMM covered the entire value chain of the industry. It brought together executives from all over the world and is the world’s most important platform for innovations and the latest technologies in the

maritime sector. Under the motto “SMM – driving the maritime transition”, the 31st SMM focused in particular on the maritime energy transition and the digital transformation. The trade fair was flanked by an attractive conference programme and a wide range of networking opportunities.
